RantOut is designed to give people room to speak and choose whether to talk. The best safety tools work when people understand what they actually do.
Before you post
Do not share passwords, financial information, identity documents, home addresses, or other confidential information in public rants or private conversations.
A rant can be public. Before publishing, think twice about including:
- Full names, home addresses or personal phone numbers.
- Workplace details that make someone easy to identify.
- Account passwords or banking details.
- Identity documents.
- Information another person expects to remain private.
You can tell the story without giving strangers everything needed to identify the people in it.
Message requests
Reacting to a rant does not send a message. A member can separately send one introductory text as a message request, which may be visible before acceptance.
The recipient can Accept, Ignore, Block or Report. Chat opens after acceptance. You never owe someone a conversation because you read or reacted to their rant.
In chat
Accepting a message request opens private chat between the members. That chat is not part of the public rant feed. Chats are stored by RantOut and are not end-to-end encrypted.
Do not share information merely because a conversation feels private. A recipient can copy what you send. Members cannot currently delete individual messages or whole conversation histories.
Sharing images
Images can reveal more than intended. Avoid sharing:
- IDs, tickets and addresses.
- Financial documents.
- Work badges or school details.
- Images revealing sensitive background information.
RantOut processes supported images and strips metadata such as EXIF/GPS through its current image pipeline, but the visible contents of an image can still identify you.
Hide, block and report are different
Hide
Removes the conversation from your normal Chats list. It does not delete history. You can restore a hidden chat, and a new message can cause it to reappear.
Block
Stops new interaction between the two accounts while the block remains. Existing history is retained, and the conversation becomes read-only.
Report
Sends a specific user, rant, message or image to RantOut moderation for review.
Reporting does not automatically block someone. Blocking does not automatically file a report.
If something crosses the line
You can report a rant, a user, a text message or an image. Give enough context for moderation to understand what happened.
Do not retaliate or continue an unsafe conversation merely to collect more evidence.
How moderation works
RantOut reviews reports and relevant content to enforce platform rules and protect members. See Privacy at RantOut for how stored content is handled.
Moderation may:
- Remove a rant.
- Remove a message or image from participant view.
- Suspend a member.
- Ban a member.
Removed moderation evidence may remain retained internally. Reports are reviewed in context; a particular action or response time is not guaranteed.
Read the Community Guidelines for the boundaries we ask members to respect and Privacy at RantOut for more on stored information.
RantOut is not an emergency service
RantOut is a social platform. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, use appropriate local emergency services or a trusted local resource that can respond in real time.
